How Much Gentler Have You Been Today?

Gentleness can be the comforting cup of adrak chai that you can make for yourself too while serving others

When someone questions us if we are kind or gentle, you and I are most probably to picture us being kind with someone—maybe serving a comforting cup of tea, consoling a dear friend, or sharing a cosy hug. But most of the time we never think of being gentle or kind to ourselves. How much ever noble may our intention of being gentle towards others be, how can we ever comfort others while being harsh to ourselves, by ignoring our existence?

So here is a little poem as a gentle reminder to practise gentleness and be kind to ourselves too even if it’s in the simplest ways possible.

How Much Gentler Have You Been Today?

You greet, you smile, you care, you pray with all gentleness
Yet, is it fair to be in debt to deny self of some kindness?

When the welcoming warmth of the mighty witness,
Finds his way to your bodyland in light-years of kindness-
Did you take a minute to pause, enjoy in its wilderness,
To wrap yourself up in his warmth, a gift of gentleness?

You greet, you smile, you care, you pray with all gentleness
Yet, is it fair to be in debt to deny self of some kindness?

When the swaying soul of nature’s living,
Touches you ‘tween your toiling day, sweats beading-
A replacement of exhaustion with relief perspiring,
Did you pause for a grateful dance along with his swaying?

You greet, you smile, you care, you pray with all gentleness
Yet, is it fair to be in debt to deny self of some kindness?

When the beautiful sight of her smiling blooms,
Chooses to wash away your eclipsing glooms-
A colourful company to make your day bright-
Did you allow yourself to lose in the delight?

You greet, you smile, you care, you pray with all gentleness
Yet, is it fair to be in debt to deny self of some kindness?

When the messengers of grace in shades of grey,
Look out for you even while being far away-
A circus of clowns making faces for you to smile,
Did you pause to look above, giggle a while?

You greet, you smile, you care, you pray with all gentleness
Yet, is it fair to be in debt to deny self of some kindness?

I hope this gentle nudge will serve you as a reminder to wrap yourself with the comfort of kindness in whichever way you find it right. As Gentleness Ambassador Bingz Huang may put it most simply, gentleness is like breathing. So essentially, breathe before you give, gently, oh gently!
